Countrywide Home Loans is killing me

First a little history:

November 16, 2007 I had major surgery and my employer let me go on my first week home on disability. At the time I could not even drive so it was not until the first of the year that I was able to look for work. I aggressively looked for work everywhere and anywhere. Both high-end and minimum wage jobs, yet the minimum wage jobs won’t hire me because they believe I won’t stick around, and executive employment can be hard to find. I lived off credit for 9 months increasing my debt to a crisis level. I sold almost everything I had at pennies on the dollar.

In June of 08 I applied for food stamps because I was out of food and money. In July I accepted a job in Los Angeles and relocated. Unfortunately the move to LA was at reduced pay and a higher cost of living so I could not pay both rent and a mortgage. My realtor tried to sell the house and we dropped the price $5k every two weeks.

October of 08 I was laid off and right now I only have a temp job that lasts another 58 days. The gig has no benefits and only pays rent. Thanks to some loving people I’m not going hungry, and because I have now given my life to help the homeless I have some peace about my situation, but I am still in a very serious crisis.

Here is the deal:

In November of 08 we found a buyer for my house in ST Louis and started the process of a short sale with Countrywide, yet it has been nightmare after nightmare. To make a very long story short Countrywide is killing me. You can never get to a manager, or the people who are (supposedly) negotiating the short sale. It took a month to schedule an appraiser yet they assigned the data to only one of the loans causing more delay (they kept saying it was not done when my realtor was with the appraiser at the house)

I call a few times a week and they give a different story each time. “It will be 7 business days” they told us in December before the holidays. After the holidays they say that 7 days was just to assign it to a negotiator so now it will be another 10 business days. Once 10 days was up I called and they responded 10 business days is just a ballpark figure. My realtor also calls and gets the same madness.

You’d think that since we have a buyer and the offer is right in line of market value Countrywide would want to make this happen so they don’t have to sell it themselves. Not the case and my buyer is now done with this. My realtor has had other short sales competed in half this time but with different lenders.

I’ve been trying to do the right thing and I paid my mortgage with my credit cards for almost a year. Of course they are maxed but I’ve never missed a minimum payment. Yesterday that payment jumped because Bank Of America more than doubled my interest rate. Now, it’s beyond me to pay. I called B of A last night and they closed all of my accounts and slammed my credit. They said I have been a faithful customer for a long time with never even a late payment, but because my mortgage has not been paid in 150 days they have no choice.

This flat out SUCKS! 14 years ago I was homeless and I’ve worked so hard to restore my credit. If Countrywide had moved on this like they should, and kept their word, I would not be in such a bad situation, oh, I’m still in crisis but now I’m tanked.

This laptop, my car, some furniture, and a box of photos is all I have left.

Please do my a big favor – blog about this, tweet this, forward to someone, yell real loud because if Countywide is doing this to me I am sure there are many others who Countrywide is tanking.

Also, going through a foreclosure/short sale procedure is HORRIBLE. It makes you feel dirty. I feel dirty! I’ve done all I can and I work very hard to do the right thing – always! But this just makes me feel like I am less of a human. With what’s going on in the world today you know someone who also is in a similar situation. Be nice to them, take them to dinner and the movies – get them out of their problem! Chances are they don’t have money to get out much and are living in their crisis. At the very least be a good listener. Losing a house after losing a job is horrible!

  • Companies have become fairly successful by having their ads on during the super bowl. I’m sure there was a reason to do it.Commercial advertising is draws your attention to a product, it doesn’t brainwash you and make you buy it. If your not in the market for a car, you could see 100 car commercials and they would go in one ear and out the other.

I am going through a nightmare with countrywide. My husband lost work hours like so many other people. Countrywide had us pay a lump sum to get a work out. We got papers saying they were going to start over and put what we owed on the back. We started making out morgage payments again and forclosure papers kept coming. Lawyer letters. Countrywide keeps saying after the next payment the forclosure will be cancelled. 4 months this has been going on. They say ignore the lawyer papers we dont want your home just make the next payment. Before the last month payment i called with my husband and said i want proof you are not selling our home before i make another payment. The girl said we cant do that. Send in the payment-we have all your information and everything looks good. Everything will be stopped. I woke 3 days ago to another lawyer paper-they arre auctioning our home the 6th. We have 6 children, we work so hard for EVERYTHING we have. We have done EVERYTHING they asked us to. They have been lying to us the whole time. And they are still giving me the run around-Oh and they want one more payment-again. This was a shock. We have nowhere to go-nothing packed because they said everything was ok. They dont want our house, they have enough houses. How can a company just lie to you, take your money and home? How are they getting away with this??

I can't beleive I am going through the same things with Countrywide. They are the worst bank out their. They are their own worst enemy. Countrywide is nothing but a hand in the air grabbing as much money as they can from the government while never approving any bodies short sales. They do not care. The devils bank is what they should be known for. They don't want money from true buyers, only the governments money (Taxpayers money to pay their uneducated employees who know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but how to wait for the 5:00 whistle to get their paychecks every week). These are the bastards that put us all where we are now. When I try to give them money they will not take it on my short sales either. All the other banks seem to work it out. This bank never has approved one of my short sales EVER, and I have over 100 active short sales. Over 20 are with Countrywide and to date 0 have been approved. 90% of my other short sales are approved by every other bank. Why are these people still in existance. Does not the government truly understand what the real deal is with this shameless company. do they not know what they really are all about?? BTW, I am a short sale realtor specialist in case you did not figure it out. They should close this bank or the government should kick all those no good for nothing negotiators out and place their own people in this bank (Home retention department) to start collecting short sale fund proceeds instead of just forking over tax payers money going down the drain to pay these irresponsible, insensitive, selfish, un educated negotiators who have no clue what a mess they put us in and how they keep digging further into trouble. Countrywide: STOP getting tax payers monies & start collecting it from the buyers who want to buy your distressed properties & toxic mortgages. I have never thought our world would be in the position it is. Countrywide, I wish you never existed. You created this and you can hot even fix the problem you created. Please, g-d, please, some one, something, get those no good negotiators out of countrywide. They are worsening the situatuion with all their lies and deceit. How as a people can we stand by & let this go on????

Oh NO!! That is SO awful! How excruciatingly frustrating. :( I'd take them out for you if I could. Short of that, how about I make an extra portion of lunch some day soon and bring it in for you? homecooked food is always nice. What sounds good?

What a horrible sequence of events. It's amazing that an employer can let you go when you're out on disability. I don't know enough about this, but I would have thought you'd have some legal recourse there.
You are NOT less than human, dirty, or in any way a screwup. Remember that Countrywide stiffed millions of stockholders as the economic implosion began. That seems a bit of a screwup to me. And remember, Bank of America bought Countrywide, and now that BAC stock is tanking, too. These folks are not rocket scientists.
I'll pray for you. And I would be glad to pray really specifically if you want to tell me how to be specific.
  • Wow is that sucky! I hope things go well for you! Hopefully this will get worked out (although I know how yucky this kind of situation can be, and that's it's hard to get resolved because of the other party.) Hopefully it will work out though!! And soon!!
